One of my ways to try and avoid art block is keeping a small box of magazine (mostly National Geographics) clippings. When I don’t know what to draw, I sift through it and pick an image. I consider the image a springboard: I generally don’t want to recreate it exactly, but rather let myself focus on whatever part of the image I find interesting.
