Rest is a portal
This sketchbook spread is from 2020. That year, one of the podcasts (and pieces of media in general) that most radically challenged my thinking was a For the Wild episode with Tricia Hersey, founder of the Nap Ministry. It got me thinking about the role of rest in our lives and helped me recognize how the values of always being “busy” or “productive” are harmful. These are threads I’ve continued to pull since. At the time, the quote “Rest is a portal for invention” stuck with me enough to put it in my sketchbook.
Just a few months ago I finished reading Tricia Hersey’s new book, Rest is Resistance: a Manifesto, which dives deeper into these topics. I highly recommend it!
