I’m still practising my oil painting skills – after painting my friends cats (Monday, Kobe) I wanted to try painting dogs. These were tricky for a few reasons:

• I was combining multiple reference photos, instead using just one
• I’m trying to not over-render the fur – hard to find the balance of broader shapes vs little fine brush details
• Also, oil paints continue to dry darker than I expect, so especially in the case of Boo’s portrait I feel I could have pushed the contrast more.

It’s always so easy to be critical of my own work, all lessons learned for next time!
